Update: Grey Knights

Well it's been a while since I last made a real effort to finish an imperial army. Although with my winding down of my Valhallans a bit I wanted to try something new, and I have this metal army I got a few years ago that looks awesome. Enter a new codex and BAM! My Grey Knights are the new hotness on the 40K scene. This opens a great opportunity to jump into a whole new army with some great looking models. Even the older metal models still hold up well to the new plastics. With the models I have and the new additions I have made I think I can really put together a fun force to play. Add on a new Dreadknight for fun, along with some inquisitorial units and the force is now a nasty combined arms force. I plan on taking the rest of the year on this project and hoping that at the end of the year I will have a fully painted and based army of Daemonhunter badness! Here is my blue print army list, some of the units are already done and are waiting for reinforcements. The Dreadnought and GK Striker Squad 2 are already done, and a few other units will also join the army to rise the bar in points. As for the Inquisition, you can look forward to some special characters as well as an assassin, and maybe working my now removed stormtroopers into the mix. I will be posting some newly painted models update soon! Enjoy! :)

Forge World Updates Characters for new GK's Codex

If you didn't get the FW Email the other day you might not have known that FW took a moment to update it's Inquisitorial Characters and the Psycannon Upgrade for Armor. Inq. Hector Rex of the Ordo Malleus and Inq. Solomon Lok of the Ordo Xenos now have updated rules for use with the newly released Grey Knights codex. This is great news since before this update Lok was limited to his assigned retinue in the Imperial Armour books, and now he is able to fight alone or with a codex retinue. So now I have a good reason to break my model out and paint him up. I never owned a Rex model so I was not as fired up to use him with this update, but that might change now that he is updated too. Maybe one day I might pick him up from FW.

Finally the other update was to the Psycannon upgrade you can give some Grey Knights tanks, flyers, or walkers. The points have been updated for the weapon. I'm guessing that since these are new updates we will see the final version of these 3 updates in the refurbished Imperial Armour 2 Marines and Inq. book which is in the works now. The link is below, try the characters out and enjoy! :)

Rynnsguard Update: Still Here and Ticking!

The last few months have been slow here in the Rynnsguard. Mainly due to my participation in a 40K Escalation League, where I was playing Chaos Daemons, so I haven't had much of a chance to work on anything Imperial related, but that is now over and time to for a change. My priorities are about to change, especially with the release of the new Grey Knights codex. As you can see above I have made my codex purchase along with some new reinforcements for the army. I also dug out an old promotional inquisitor for the coming army. So I will be working on my grey knights on and off from now on since now they are back with style! Where do my Stormtroopers go from here, they become Henchmen...at least for this army, although they will see action with my IG armies as well. So with the changing of the guard a new imperial army is going to grow here.

Valhallan 199th: The 199th is still a major work in progress for me, as they have become my top IG army for my imperial forces. As I have stated before I have been working on a Griffon for the armor forces of this army, and I am very close to finishing it now. Today it will have fully painted tracks on it, and soon I will finish painting all the extra bits on it and be ready for the finishing touches.

Along with the Griffon I will be adding more light armor to the force. So while the escalation league was running I have slowly been amassing more and more sentinels. I got an idea ticking in the back of my mind for an Apocalypse formation, but it will also give my force more armor to play with in regular games....so more sentinel love coming to the 199th!

I will be posting new updates soon on more items coming down the pipeline for the Rynnsguard! Enjoy! :)

Imperial Armour of the Valhallan 199th (Part 2)

Finally after a year on and off of working on this tank I can finally say it is finished and ready to roll out! Being a Light Infantry regiment the 199th doesn't have access to a lot of super heavy armor to support it. Most of the time they get any kind of super heavy support from other regiments they operate with. They recently got permission to field a light 2nd generation baneblade class tank, a twin battle cannon Macharius battle tank. The "Ironclad" is the  first of its class to be assigned to to the Valhallan 199th.

Enjoy!! :)

Imperial Armour of the Valhallan 199th (Part 1)

I have finally finished the first armored vehicles for the 199th Valhallan. This time around we have a Command Chimera and a Leman Russ MBT.

The Chimera is a rebuilt tank I acquired from an EBay auction. A former Steel Legion Chimera, it now serves as the Company Command Squad transport. I found a very useful use of the new sentinel kit spot light with this kit. In the future I might have to get a few more of them and use them on my chimeras as the spot light upgrade.

The Leman Russ is a standard main battle cannon version with multimelta sponsons. Built from the bottom up, its going to be one of the few heavy tanks assigned to the Valhallan light infantry force. Armed with a pair of multimeltas to provide some serious anti-armor and a lascannon in the front to top off the anti-armor role, this tank will provide my force with some heavy firepower for cracking open those tough armored opponents or breaking up heavy infantry formations.

Enjoy! :)

2011 at the Rynnsguard HQ

Happy New Year!!

Well we started a whole new year. This blog isn't a year old yet but it has gotten a lot of action posted to it in the last year. Mostly thanks to my undertaking of an entire Valhallan army recently, but there are more forces of the Imperium that are in the works for my new blog. Let me give you a run down of where I stand here....

Rynnsguard Heavy Guard: The centerpiece of this blog is of course my Rynnsguard IG army, which has kind of fallen to way side due to my Valhallan project. I have finished a few units but most of what I have begun working on is still in the process of being finished. The most recent unit close to completion will be a unit of Grenadier stormtroopers which I hope to finish by the end of this month. Along with them I am working on some Lascannon conversions and Rynns World Militia unit. So the project still lives, slowly its getting there. Since the new codex came out I also don't have a working army list for this army so I am going to keep the project off to the side and build up slowly with the units I want to paint for them. Background wise I have given some thought to the story of this unit, and I have come up with a fun idea which I plan to flesh out as the units are finished.

199th Valhallan: Perhaps my most complete IG project to date, this army is still growing each day. Right now I am working the last touches of the armies first real tanks to join it. I am also working on a Super Heavy tank for the army. I have several ideas floating around my mind for this army this coming year, so this army is still far from complete any time soon. I might slow down on the work for the army but more units will be joining soon....Pack a Greatcoat we're going to play in the snow!

Grey Knights and The Inquisition: Perhaps one of my best built and painted marine forces I have for my imperials right now. My GK might be looking to get a new codex this year so I want to get some major work done on this army before the release. I am working on some Terminators at the moment, I have almost 2 squads of GKs finished, along with 2 squads of Stormtroopers finished and ready for deployment. The Dreadnought numbers for this army will also grow this year I hope, along with some new armor. Along with this force I want to get a force of Arbites finished for the fun factor, originally meant for Necromunda the squad will join my Inq forces for the fun of it. Along with these forces I am looking at working on some older 1st edition stormtroopers for a possible Ordo Xeno force. I got a few ideas in the works for this army, and it will be an exciting time to play Inquisition when that codex comes out. WOO HOO!

Titan Legion: 2 finished Titans is not enough for me! I still have 2 Warhounds which need finishing up and this year I want to get at least one more done for my Titan forces. Along with these I have a few titan crew models I want to work on for fun factor. Maybe I can finally get that Reaver Princeps painted this year.

Space Marines: Where to start with this project....so many to chose from...Crimson Fist, Dark Angel Ravenwing, Red Scorpions, Space Wolves, and Space Sharks. All of these ideas have crossed my mind, and I never seem to have time for them with so many other things do. Maybe this year I will finally pick one and get a force put together. The problem is that I am already getting my fix of power armored troops from my CSM and Grey Knights Projects. We'll see where this year leads me.....

Other Projects: Of course I have other Imperial projects on the hobby desk waiting for my attention. With Aeronautica Imperialis, 40K Epic Crimson Fist, and Imperial Terrain topping my list right now. My other IG ideas are also out there, Elysians are always on the back of my mind, Tallarn has not been abandoned just yet either. Finally a Squat IG project is always in my mind with the huge squat army I have in storage. The Imperial Navy is also looking for some love. So there is lots of space for expansion here and I will try to make the time when I can......

I wish all of you good luck in your hobby projects for 2011! FOR THE EMPEROR!!!

Enjoy! =)

Regimental Advisors of the Valhallan 199th

The Regimental Advisors of the Imperial Guard are a new feature for army command squads that can be helpful in many ways for your army command. I have chosen to put some together for my Valhallan troops, mostly for the fun of using some models I had around doing nothing, but could serve a use now.

Master of Ordnance Commander Yuri is a former basilisk squadron commander promoted to advise infantry commanders of the advantages of long range artillery support. He now reports back to the artillery support company command when heavy weapons support is in need.

Astropath Anastasia is a highly regarded psyker in the service of the 199th. She is known to have helped in the locating of "Da Red Orktoba" during that daring raid. With her help the Stormtroopers and Naval support arrived in the battle on time to support the 199th strike force. The photo seems to be affected by her warp powers.

Bodyguards "Boil" and "Waxer" of Col. Stukov, these two veteran guardsmen are part of an elite force assigned to guarding the Colonel's life with their own. Former Valhallan Grenadiers these men are trained in advance special combat techniques. These men wear the purple sash of the Valhallan Special Guard Forces. Respected even by elite imperial stormtroopers.

Officer of the Fleet Lt. Voskov is a naval liaison to the 199th. He is an ex-fighter pilot with many hours of air combat under his belt. He works with the ground pounders of the 199th now to support them with naval air support and transport where they need it most.

Enjoy! =)

Commissars of the Valhallan 199th

How's that old song go..."Don't Turn Around..."

Heh! Yeah ok, we all know that song, Der Kommissar has been used many times in our game, but you can't beat it. This last month has been extremely busy for me outside of the hobby so I have been unable to post much. Although I am still cranking away and painting and building up the armies of the imperium. This weekend I had time to finish off 2 Commissars for my Valhallan Army. One was in the works for a while, and I found the older model by luck one day and added it to the crew. Right now they will join my combined platoon and add more close combat fun to the platoon. I have 3 squads in the platoon along with the command squad, so I might be adding some more commies in the future when I have time to paint them. These 2 were a lot of fun to paint and I think they came out real well.

Commissar Hunt is a heavy worlder, so he might be short but he can dish it out to his enemies.

Update: Valhallan 199th (Part 3)

In this update I will show you pics of some of the new additions I am making to my Valhallan troops. I have chosen to add a Commissar to the force, since it fits the Valhallan army style a lot. Yes there is a bit of a Commissar Cain fan in me, and I enjoy his books a lot. So I had to make space in my army for a commissar. Of the two current commies the one below really seems like the best choice. Once I get a chance to dig up some of my older commies I will add more to the army, but for now I will experiment with this guy.

Another unit I have given some thought to is Sly Marbo. No army these days really goes on the table without this super trooper jumping into action. So I was wondering what model I could use to make this super trooper version for my valhallans, and I found it in the Last Chancers box set. Demolition Man fits the bill perfectly. Now I just need to modify his weapon a little and give him a proper blade. With a little bit of conversion work I will soon have my own snowy Marbo variant. Below is DM after a simple green bath to clean up the old model, the conversion work will come soon.

Enjoy! :)
