Crimson Fist: 2nd Tactical Squad

A bit of a surprise addition to the army when I found these marines. I was looking in a storage box of marine stuff when I ran into these models. These are marines from the previous 40K starter box, the Battle for Macragge box set. A few of them I had use for test paint schemes and a few were primed, but it was a full squad with a heavy weapon and assault weapon waiting to find a home. I figured these guys won't take long to paint so I added the extra surprise tactical squad to the army. One challenge with this squad was they didn't have molded tac squad logos so I had to use the tac logos from the FW CF decal sheet and they came out perfect, similar to the first squads look.

Crimson Fist: Tactical Scout Squads

At the start of the Rynn's World Challenge I had all these old metal scouts waiting to join the ranks of the new army, and some I had already started working on years before. Since the army is a post Rynn's World invasion force scouts will play a major role in the army. So round 2 of painting brought these guys around to finish. This is 2 squads of 6 scouts each, with a rocket launcher for a heavy weapon. Basic scouts with bolt pistols and combat blades for holding objectives or infiltrating into enemy lines. The scouts were a change from the same ole same ole of painting power armor.

Crimson Fist: Terminator Squad (Part 2)

What's better then 5 terminators? How about 5 more with heavy weapons! After finishing my first 5 AoBR termies, I got to thinking that they need more firepower so I picked up regular terminator box set and got to work. The first 5 weren't that tough to paint so I didn't think these would be either. A little more of challenge and the bits allowed me to make they look a little different, I also added some chain fist to bring the pain to some tanks in close combat. I chose the Cyclone Launcher and Assault Cannon for my heavy weapons choice since this squad is mostly shooty. Well now that I have a full squad, time to find a transport

Crimson Fist: 1st Sternguard Squad

The unit that started this whole project. This was the first squad I painted up in the CF colors. The unit sat around doing nothing for a long time, after a while I did get around to building up a few of the models with weapons and gears. After a while I got busy elsewhere, now that the project is in full swing I have come back to this unit and finished it off finally. Armed with new Forgeworld bolters for a better sternguard look. They also have some modified markers to show they are different from the rank marines, two fist painted red, also infantry markers in silver instead of red, as well as different chapter insignia. I've been told that GW no longer makes these kinds of fist shoulder pads, and I have a few more, so I might add few more veterans in the future, for now 5 is enough. Enjoy the modified motion detector I put on the heavy bolter.

Crimson Fist: Captain Alessio Cortez

Captain Cortez is the leader of the Crimson Fist 4th Company. He is known as the Master of the Charge, and besides Pedro is the only other CF character with his own model. I picked this model up a long time ago when I began collecting pieces for my Crimson Fist army. While it is known to be the most notorious model ever made by GW, it's still CF history. I liked the character in Rynn's World, and like his background. So for now he is my army leader, a basic captain with a few upgrades.

Enjoy! :)

Update: Crimson Fist Transports

A small update on some of the things I'm grinding away on for my Crimson Fist army. Now that a few units are finished, it's time to bring out the transport options for them. I wanted to give my transports the bulky full armored look, so here are two Rhino chasies that will work as either Rhinos or Razorbacks for various units. The pieces worked out fairly well, but the armor kits is perhaps the most annoying kit I have ever had to work with from the FW Line, I still have a little bit of greenstuff work to do on the doors.

Crimson Fist: Tactical Squad

Here is another unplanned addition to my Fist army. These guys were also an added unit from the Rynn's World Challenge. A full 10 man tac squad with a flamer and rocket launcher, straight out of AoBR. The squad came out real well, and I have already begun work on a Rhino for them to ride in. The 10 man squad will be handy to add more troops to my original list of only 2 scout squads.

Enjoy! :)

Crimson Fist: Terminator Squad

Next up is my new Termiantor squad. Not something I planned for the army, but when I jumped onto the Rynn's World Challanege I had to paint up a termiantor squad so here they are. I actually had a blast working on these guys, so much so that I have already picked up 5 more Termies to make it a full 10 man squad with 2 heavy weapons. So reineforcements are on the way for this squad. I my many games of Zone Mortalis these guys will come in handy too!

Enjoy! :)

Crimson Fist: Multi-Melta Deadnought

The first unit I finished as part of my Rynn's World Challenge the Dreadnought was a lot of fun to try the paint scheme out and get a good piece of armor painted up for the army. I have yet to give it a name but I'm sure one will come to mind in the future. Let me know what you think.

Enjoy! :)

Rynn's World Challenge Completed!

A month ago today I split a box of Assault of Blackreach starter set, and I set myself a goal of painting the marines in that box in the scheme of the crimson fist. While the store event ended on the day the 25th anniversary model came out, and I won that goal I gave myself a month to finish as much of what I had waiting for my crimson fist army and see my results. Well it's a month later and I have a fully based and painted army of Crimson Fist marines waiting to game up!

In the end I changed the captain that came with the box for the Captain Cortez model instead. While it is an old bad model I think my paint work came out well. In addition I was able to finish the scout squads I have been working on and off for the last year when I had time for the army. I have also pulled the marine sternguard unit I had somewhat finished a while back and am in the process of rebuilding them with new gear. Its been a fun and intense project and one I have been waiting to get into for a few years now since I chose this chapter as my vanilla marine choice. I got a few other piece now waiting on my workbench for the army and in the coming days I will give each unit types a separate post to show some better pics. I will also have a gallery for the army up soon too. Let me know what you think of the results!

Preparing for Armies on Parade WIP

This year I plan on putting together a display for Armies on Parade. The entries I saw last year at my local store left me shaking my head and wondering why I hadn't entered. This year I plan on changing that, and I have begun work on my display board. This also provides me with a perfect excuse to work on some of my terrain sitting around unpainted and unfinished, in addition to getting some new toys and doing some converting.

I chose my dependable 199th Valhallan as the star army for the display this year. Finished a few years ago, the army is one of my best ones I have built and painted and I have a lot of IG terrain I can employ for the army.

The above shot is from 2 months ago when I began the process of painting some defensive terrain and getting an idea for how I wanted the board to look like. The following shot are from a month ago with the final winter board ready to go, now I just need to get the terrain finished. You might notice that I am using one ForgeWorld's newest terrain pieces for my display. I have also converted some FW Pillboxes with some planet strike bits to make them able to mount the defensive guns. I still have a few more additions to the army and terrain before it's all done....so more to follow!

Enjoy! :)

Rynn's World Challenge! DAY 6 Update

Well in a rare feat of posting on a Saturday, this past week has been a busy one for me with this side project. Base coating was the word of the week as I worked fast to get some primer on the AoBR models and get a good base coat of Regal Blue to begin the Crimson Fist transformation. I also dug up my abandoned Sternguard and Scouts to join in the fun. This weekend will be a busy one for me as I attempt to finish a few of these units.....Enjoy the WIP Pics!

Rynn's World Challenge!

Well this year is the 25th Anniversary of 40K, and they have announced that the special model for this event is a Crimson Fist model. This has caught my eye, and I have already placed one on order of course. How could I not, after all this site is inspired by the Crimson Fist space marine chapter and Rynnsguard forces. Well this weekend I found out that for this event my local GW bunker has set a challenge of painting an entire Black Reach marine set in the colors of the Crimson Fist. Well I went halves on a box of AoBR and I took the marines while a friend of mine took the Orks. We both have 2 weeks to paint up the contents of the box. I figured this would be a great jump off point for my CF army. Yes last year I began working on some scouts but since the Grey Knights project took up a lot of my time I had little time for them. I am about the be done with GKs for a little while, so I want to move onto my CF army finally. Well here's what I got to get done in 2 weeks.....

1 Captain
5 Terminators
10 Tac Marines
1 Dreadnought

I also have the option of adding the special 25th Anniversary model to the force and Pedro Kantor, both of which I have. I also plan on revising an old Vet Squad and finishing my 2 Scout Squads.....So here we go!

Enjoy! :)
